IWSF World Cup 96

IWSF World Cup 96

The IWSF World Cup 96 leapt on to the world ski scene as Jaret Llewellyn (CAN) jumped to a personal best of 64.2m (211ft) in the preliminaries to lead the pack of 8 men out of a large field of 27 skiers into the finals. The top four men skiers Llewellyn, Andrea Alessi (ITA), Bruce Neville (AUS), and Jim Clunie (CAN) all broke the 200 foot mark to put themselves in excellent World Cup points standing as the best jump count towards their World Cup points.

Although the Women's distances wern't as close to the World record mark, the top three skiers were only separated by 0.4m. Home town favorite Toni Neville (AUS) hit the mark at 40.8 m (134 ft) to lead World Record Holder Sherri Slone (USA) and rising Australian star Emma Sheers (AUS).

Skiers from 8 nations and 4 continents participated in the IWSF World CUP 96, a new concept promoted by the IWSF, a world wide tour of Men and Women Jump events eventually leading to an IWSF World Cup Champion, the first professional championship ever sponsored by the International Water Ski Federation, the sport's world governing body.

The jumps were all measured by video with great success according to Ron Fergusson, the official IWSF appointed World Cup judge.

The entire 2 hour final will be shown live on Australian television, Saturday afternoon.

The final results will be posted here immedately after the tournament.
