The British Federation and the British Disabled Water Ski Association look forward to welcoming teams to the World Disabled Championships in England in August 1999.

This first bulletin is being circulated to all IWSF Federations, but please note that subsequent bulletins will only be sent to Federations who return the Intention to Enter Form (attached) to the organisers at least three months before the event (by 23rd May).

NEAREST AIRPORT

London Heathrow is approximately 10 miles from Heron Lake. The journey time from Heathrow to Heron Lake may take approx. 30 minutes

CAMPING / CARAVANS

There is limited camping available at Heron Lake, but there are NO cooking or washing facilities.

There is a fully equipped commercially run camp-site three or four miles away at Chertsey. Please contact them directly for more details and bookings. The Laleham Camping Club is available for those wishing to camp. Telephone +44 1932 564149.

AUDIO SLALOM

The Mark 4b Bat Blaster (supplied by British Disabled Water Ski Association) will be used.

 

ENTRY FEES:

An entry fee of £25 per skier per event will be charged as agreed by the IWSF.

The entry fee must be paid on arrival in local currency. Note - if a skier's entry fee has not been paid by the start of the preliminary round they may not be allowed to participate.

 

LUNCHES

As required by the IWSF Obligations lunches for all team members and officials will be provided on site each day of the Championships.

 

INTENTION TO ENTER

If you are intending to send a team to these Championships please complete the enclosed form and return it to British Water Ski immediately and in any case prior to 23rd May 1999.

 

ENTRY FORMS

Will be included in Bulletin No. 2

 

TRANSPORT

Transportation will be provided by the organisers between the Airport and the Hotel. Teams are requested to notify their arrival time in advance in order that arrangements can be made.

A shuttle bus will be provided between the Hotel and the lake during the day.

Note that there is a car parking charge of £4.50 a night at the hotel and parking at the site is limited, so we do not recommend people to hire cars.

There is a good underground service from Heathrow to Central London.

 

CAR / MINIBUS RENTAL

All major car rental firms have desks at Heathrow Airport

Group A (sub-compact) cars will cost around £150 to hire for 8 days.

An 8 seater people carrier (Ford Galaxy) will cost around £600 for the same period.

 

BIBS:

Sponsors advertising bibs will be required to be worn by competitors.

 

VISAS

Check with your local British Embassy to determine if visas are required to enter the UK.

 

TRAINING

Apart from limited evening skiing the competition site will not be available for training before familiarisation. There are, however, many water ski sites within 30 minutes drive of Heathrow. All of those listed below have slalom courses although, as indicated most do not have inner courses or fully adjustable jumps. The contact numbers provided are for the relevant club secretary, who can provide more details.
