NOTES
Background Through the years and the gradual adoption of new tricks, most notably the whole generation of flips, the trick points have become unbalanced with the result that standardized runs are now the norm which makes the discipline less interesting as a whole. The points review comes about as a result of this and has as its goal the aim of ensuring the points become more balanced across the different variety of tricks so as to encourage diversity in skier's runs. This in turn should be accompanied by a review of the rules governing what sequences of tricks skiers are allowed to do (encompassed here with HSBFBF / TSBFBF + HSBFBB / TSBFBB which at the moment you cannot do both of - i.e. 4 different tricks which at the moment the rules only allow 2 of).

Viewpoint This proposed point system is based on a view of difficulty (either in learning or execution to credit) and risk (i.e. handle pass etc.). Being a view it is subjective but it is a coaches not skiers view as skiers will always associate different values with their own experiences, a coach will have a broader range of experience.

Flips A differentiation is made between basic and reverse through calling them Toeside and Heelside, representing how the skier takes off for the trick, which then determines which position they land in, both being determinate in how hard the trick is which the existing method of coding does not ensure. Toeside / Heelside could also be extended to spins and bodyovers, but it has been thought best to begin with to just utilise them for flips as they are easier to spot. This will require a learning process for judges. For this reason only a few (4 all based on the front flip) new flips have been added.

Nomenclature HS = Heelside, TS = Toeside, BF= Back Flip, FF = Front Flip, W at the start of a trick code = wrapped, IS = Inside the line, OS = Outside the line
  Italicised = New flips

Points The existing spread of points from the original IWSF list has been used as a basis and then modified according to the above background. To help gain acceptance as few as possible point values have been dropped and at all levels skiers should see their run value increasing. The records issue will be raised in any change of the points.

Judging This does need judges to take on board the difference between Toeside and Heelside flips and training will be needed with this. This can be done through working with video and has to be something that judges grasp. The limits of the skiers, not the judges, should be defining the limits of the sport and we hope this view accepted in the right spirit.
